About Blue Passport Travel

Independent travel guides for Americans going abroad: what we cover, how we research and check each page, how we fix mistakes, and what we will and won't do with ads and links.

Verified November 2026

Blue Passport Travel publishes plain-English travel guides for people traveling on a US passport. We are an independent site. We are not a travel agency, an airline, a tourism board or a government office, and no country, hotel or tour company pays to appear in our guides.

What we cover

The site home lists the 18 countries Americans visit most, with the entry rules for a US passport in each. Seven of them have a full guide so far: France, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Dominican Republic and Spain. Each guide covers the main cities and regions, entry and customs rules, money, phones, getting around, food, safety, health and month-by-month planning, with free tools: a trip builder, a budget calculator, converters and a packing list. Travel advice holds the pages that compare countries, such as the entry-rules hub and the side-by-side comparisons.

Everything is written for an American reader: prices in dollars next to the local currency, miles and Fahrenheit, US customs allowances and US phone plans, and the habits that surprise people from home.

How we make the guides

  • Official sources first. Entry rules, fees and prices come from government sites (the US State Department, US Customs and Border Protection, each country's immigration and transport authorities), museums, transport operators and tourist boards. For recent changes, such as strikes, closures and new taxes, we use reputable news reports and say when something is not yet confirmed.
  • AI-assisted, then checked. We use AI tools to help gather sources and draft pages. A draft is not published until it has gone through separate fact-check passes against the sources, which correct prices, dates and rules that do not match and soften anything that cannot be confirmed. We keep the list of sources behind every page.
  • Dated. Every page shows the month its facts were last checked. Time-sensitive facts, such as a closed museum or a suspended train line, go on a dated list that we re-check before they expire, and we review the month-by-month pages every season.
  • Original pictures. The travel posters are original artwork made for this site. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licenses, with the photographer and license under each one. Maps use region outlines from geoBoundaries (CC BY 4.0).

Rules change, sometimes overnight. Our guides are general information, not legal, immigration, medical or financial advice, so check entry requirements on the official sites shortly before you travel. Our terms of use say more.

Corrections

If something on a page doesn't match what you found, tell us and choose "A correction or update". We check every report against official sources, fix the page if it is wrong, and update its checked date. We would rather hear about a mistake than have someone plan around it.

Ads, links and independence

We choose what to recommend because it is good for American travelers, never because someone paid for it. Links to official booking sites carry no commission. To pay for the site, some pages may show ads served by Google. Ads are shown separately from our own text and labeled as ads, and advertisers have no say in what we write. If we ever add a link that earns us a commission, we will say so next to it. Our privacy policy explains the cookies that ads use and how to turn off personalized ads.

Trip planning

Besides the free guides, we can plan a trip for you: send your dates, budget and interests through the trip-planning form and we reply with ideas, a route and an honest sense of what it will cost. There is no obligation.
