Why this site exists
Most France guides are written for Europeans, who already know about Schengen days, chip-and-PIN machines and why the waiter never brings the check. We start from the American side: dollars, miles and Fahrenheit, US passports and customs, US phone plans, and the cultural differences that surprise people from home.
How we research
Every guide is built from current official sources: the French government, the US State Department and Embassy, US Customs and Border Protection, transport operators, museums and regional tourist boards. Each page shows the month it was last verified. Prices are shown in euros with an approximate dollar amount at the exchange rate noted on the page.
Prices, opening hours and rules change. Entry requirements in particular should always be confirmed on official government sites shortly before you travel.
Corrections and updates
Found something out of date? Tell us and we'll check it and fix it. We review the planning guides every season and the rest of the site at least once a year.
Independence and links
We recommend places because they're good for American travelers, never because someone paid us. If a link ever earns us a commission, we'll say so next to it. Links to official booking sites carry no commission.
Privacy
If you sign up for our newsletter or send a trip request, we use your email only to reply to you and to send what you asked for. We never sell your details. Tools such as the packing checklist save your choices only in your own browser.
